UNIDAD Coalition is the coalition arm of the RGV Council, Inc. The UNIDAD Coalition works to foster and develop networks of members who represent diverse populations. Members identify community needs, priorities, and build collaborations with the goal of reducing underage drinking/binge drinking and substance use in our community. We are a volunteer driven group of community citizens who together determine the focus of our services as partners.
UNIDAD Coalition actively seeks representation for each of the following sectors.
Youth (meaning young persons themselves, not an adult representing youth)
Parents
Business community
Schools
Youth-serving organizations
Law Enforcement agencies
Religious or fraternal organizations
Civic and volunteergroups
Healthcare professionals (especially from the behavioral health field)
State and local governmental agencies
Local mental health and/or substance abuse authority representation
The UNIDAD Coalition utilizes the STRATEGIC PREVENTION FRAMEWORK (SPF) to guide our prevention efforts.
The SPF uses findings from public health research along with evidence-based approaches to build capacity within the field of prevention. It is designed to promote resilience and decrease risk factors in individuals, families, and communities.
The SPF functions through a five-step process known to promote youth development, reduce risk-taking behaviors, build assets and resilience, and prevent problem behaviors across the life span.
